Update: The Pajama Program sends its thanks
The Community Service Committee would like to thank everyone for their contributions at the holiday party. We collected 16 blankets for distribution to homeless and needy people through the project, Trade Blankets for Blessings. We also collected 61 books and 21 pairs of pajamas which will help children through the Pajama Program.
Our First Friends donation was a huge success! Sue Lyons coordinated this effort with the Community Service Committee and she says: "My thanks to the Community Service Committee for participating in the First Friends "Stamp out Despair" holiday collection. This morning I dropped off the materials we collected on Tuesday 12/1: 2 large shopping bags of stationery supplies and 9 books of 1st Class Forever stamps (180 stamps). The First Friends project coordinator, Sister Regina, told me this donation put them over the top of their goal of collecting 3000 stamps and all of the immigration detainees at the Elizabeth Detention Center will receive a folder with paper, envelopes, cards, pens and a book of stamps for the holidays." Job well done, NJLLA!
Report from the Community Service Committee: At the October 1 meeting, more than 75 items including clothing, hosiery and accessories were collected for Dress for Success Newark. $210 in donations was also collected and delivered with the clothing. Thanks to everyone who supported this project. Special thanks to the coordinators, Jennifer Perez and Gayle Lynn-Nelson.
